Rockstar announced the "San Andreas Flight School" Update today,
which will be pushed live on August 19th, 2014. Included in the update
are several new vehicles, including a new fighter jet, helicopter and
sports car modeled after the 1980's Corvette Stingray. Despite missing a
great opportunity to include the song "Danger Zone" in their teaser (
Kenny Loggins is your DJ, Rockstar - come on!), we got to see a whole
lot of this new update in action.
00:09 - After some great 80's-style establishing shots of various flight control towers, we get our first look at the newest additions to the GTA V / Online vehicle roster. The new fighter jet, featuring a single-occupancy cockpit and rear-mounted jet engine, could be styled after either the Russian Mig-21 or the USAF F-5. The sports car parked in front of the jet is a classic version of the Coquette - modeled after the iconic real-world Corvette Stingray.
00:26 - While flying a fighter jet without crashing is indeed an impressive feat, what's more impressive is the ability to fly it through a bridge. While it could just be the result of a daredevil demo pilot, this could also mean that precision flying will become a much larger part of races and challenges.
00:29 - While the Vestra or Biplane could accommodate one or two passengers, we see here a passenger jet full of not one or two, but twelve characters. Hopefully this indicates that we'll be able to cart around our entire crew - then bail out and send them careening to their deaths while we parachute away, laughing maniacally.
00:31 - The Buzzard attack chopper landing on the bed of a moving truck could just be some precision stuntwork, but it also might hint at new missions involving aerial expertise will be added to Rockstar's roster.
00:47 - The new helicopter, which appears to be modeled after the Agusta A109A, can be seen flying in a pack over the Alamo Sea.
00:51 - A new land race around LSX airport features the new Coquette and several other vintage sports cars.
00:58 - The new "patriotic" parachute bags, which can be customized with various flags from around the world - unfortunately, it doesn't seem likely that the parachutes will also look like a nation's flag when opened midair.
